Stargazing Tips
How can you find the east, west, south and north sectors of the sky? In the dark, that’s quite a challenge. The answer: get yourself a compass as well as a small flashlight. Cover the flashlight with red cellophane so the bright light won’t interfere with your stargazing.
Obtain a star chart so you can find the constellations listed above as well as others. SkyNews magazine, published every two months and sold at Chapters, has a star chart in every issue. Using your red light, you’ll be able to pick out the star patterns.
Go with your parents to a dark site, away from bright lights. Wear many layers of clothing in winter because you’ll be standing still quite a while.
