Club Activities and Events for 2018.




Events 2018

The KW Astronomy Club (The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Kitchener-Waterloo Centre) holds star parties throughout the summer. Working with local universities, local schools and conservation areas, KW RASC provides events for the public to observe the night sky. We set up telescopes and invite everyone to learn about astronomy and the night sky. The events are free to attend. Some of the dates are still tentative.

Bayfield Star Party

9 June, Saturday Star party at Kintail
Not to be confused with the old Kintail. We are putting on a star party for a group of campers at the Kintail campground. To entice a few of us to leave Bayfield and travel up the road, they will feed us supper. We just have to show them the stars.

Perimeter Institute Young Physicists Program Star Night.
We will give the 40 young physicists a star party in Waterloo Park by giving them a look at the stars.

Star Party, 7:00 to 11:00 pm, Conestoga Lake Conservation Area.

Starfest
Mount Forest - the largest annual gathering of astronomers in Canada.

August 12, Sunday
Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party. , Working with the University of Waterloo Astronomy Department, we will hold a star party to observe the Perseid Meteor Shower. There will be a lecture followed by a star party. Telescopes will be set up on the Columbia Icefields Lower Sports field.
August 17
Stargazers 101, Astronomy Club Star Party, 7:00 to 11:00 pm, Conestoga Lake Conservation Area. This is our monthly meeting held in the lower parking lot of the campground.
September 7
Wilfred Laurier University, Waterloo
Activity: KW Astronomy Club General Meeting: the monthly centre astronomy meeting. The meeting is free and open to the public. Location: Wilfred Laurier University, 7:30 to 9:50, Room 112, Bricker Academic Building, free parking in front of the building
